An Ionic Entablature

The Commission:
Make a folding screen that brings the details of an Ionic Entablature from Palladio to vibrant life..... and update it to modern California!

 
I was standing on the Acropolis in Athens when the image for this screen fell plunging into my vision. This is a very strange place for such an Italian image to appear but what can I say?
The architecture of Andrea Palladio was the inspiration for this folding screen...  The frieze above the columns of the Ionic Order...  In Palladio's original drawing, the cattle skulls alternate with human babies and  garlands of Italian fruit hang in between them.  I used two bucrania (cattle skulls) instead.   (They seem to speak to me on some deep inner level...)  Then I updated them with the help of Georgia O'Keefe, and changed the fruit to California oranges, bay leaves, and wine grapes... And then I added a ribbon with a most Mozartian flavor... because I listened almost exclusively to Mozart's piano concertos while working on this...

I still own this puppy!  Or, in the more sedate manner:  "This is in the collection of the artist..."
